Spring 2011 Party Conference

Reaction to Nick Clegg’s speech

13th MARCH 2011

Responding to Nick Clegg’s keynote address at spring conference, the editor of The Liberal magazine, Benjamin Ramm, said: “Nick Clegg speaks of Alarm Clock Britain, and it is time for Lib Dems to wake up to their role as facilitators of a reckless plan of spending cuts. As the government dismantles the liberal infrastructure of the welfare state, it is absurd for Clegg to invoke the lineage of Lloyd George, Keynes and Beveridge. This speech was a haunting parody of liberalism”.

The Liberal is an independent publication dedicated to the revival of liberalism. It has no affiliation with the Liberal Democrats, although previous contributors include Nick Clegg, Vince Cable, Chris Huhne, Simon Hughes, Menzies Campbell, Shirley Williams and Paddy Ashdown.
